Downloading same mail, over and over again

I'm on my 2nd MacBook, 2nd install of Office/Entourage. This problem has occurred on both from the beginning. I also have 2 mail accounts with different providers - it happens on both accounts.

I leave my mail on the server for 2 weeks so I can A)get it on my iPhone, and B)access it from another computer via webmail should I need to. Entourage randomly re-downloads all the mail on the server as if they're all new messages. I do not have this problem with Apple Mail using the same two accounts (so I have a hard time believing it's a server/provider problem.) I've also used these two accounts via Windows with Outlook without the issue. What is Entourage doing that it keeps losing its mind about what email it's already downloaded? Sometimes it happens ever few weeks, sometimes (like this week), twice in the same week. Exceedingly frustrating...

I've seen scripts posted to "help" with this problem, but there shouldn't BE a problem, right? BTW, IMAP isn't available for these accounts.

I have this same problem with Entourage 2008. Normally about once a month or two, but over this weekend about a dozen times.

I check the same accounts with my WinMo Blackjack, but they do not duplicate there. I also run Apple Mail to check another account with the same server, and it doesn't happen there. My wife's computer is also set up with Entourage 2008 with her account, and it does the same thing, though not as often. I called my host and they say they haven't received any complaints of this.

We're not alone, though that's little comfort. I gave up on it. I have 3 POP accounts and it happened on ALL of them, and it never occurred on Apple Mail, Outlook, or via my iPhone. Yet, we're supposed to believe it's an ISP/server problem??? Child, please.

I switched to Apple Mail and iCal about 6 months ago and while it took some getting used to, I've been completely satisfied and don't miss Entourage one little bit. Oh... and Mail's NEVER downloaded duplicate messages.
