drag and drop copying between presentations?

I just started using PowerPoint 2002. In PP 2000, it was
possible to have two or more presentations open in the
slide-sorter views in separate windows--simultaneously
visible. You could copy slides between presentations by
selecting and dragging the thumbnails from one window to
the other.

PP 2002 does not seem to support this. In fact, neither
does Word 2002! So now it seems like I can't have two
documents open side-by-side for comparison, copying,
etc.

This seems like a major setback. Am I just missing
something?
