drop down menu filtering

I have an application of multiple drop-down menus with progressive filtering
for car type selections (first Make, then model, etc.). I've set up the
first drop-down menu... works fine. I've set up the second drop-down menu
(Model) with criteria vehicleMake_id = vehicleMake_id as per filtering
instructions, but nothing happens on my list. Appears the default value
filter is the only one that gets through...? Is there a trigger required to
update the filtered drop-down menus?
