Duplicate Account Folders in Entourage 2008 (MAC)

Hello!

I recently upgraded a co-workers "Test Drive" version of MS Office 2004 with the full-featured version of 2008 and installed all current Service Packs and Security updates to date.

Now the user has an (that is, ONE) active account with duplicate folders _inside_ of it. (They have two 'Sent Items' folders in the one account, for example.) The account works fine and they are receiving and sending e-mail, etc., but the duplicates all fill up with same new material as the original folders.

How do we delete these unnecessary duplicate folders?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Something may have gone wrong in the setup process.

What happens if you select Entourage menu --> Switch Identity... and set
up the account again? Messages and folders should be downloaded again
from the server.

If the duplicates reappear then they are coming from the server.

Hope this helps!

Hello, Bill!

Thanks for your reply! Using your suggestion, we created a duplicate identity that matches the old but with a slight change to the user's name. (Truncated their first and last name so no space separates them.)

Once the new identity had fully synched with the user's account on the Exchange server, we tried to delete the wonky identity through the Account Settings panel. When we did this, Entourage froze. We restarted the program and it froze again. Restarted the computer and Entourage updated the identities and everything seems to be okay, but the wonky one is still with us.

Do you think it will be okay to try to delete the wonky identity through the Account Settings panel now that the computer has been restarted?

We've put off that particular decision at least until day's end. (To make sure everything else is functioning normally.) We're happy otherwise that the new identity appear to be as it should following your suggestion and the restart.

Thanks again!

In the Finder, delete the Identity.

That only deletes the account from the current identity. You don't want
to delete your current account.

To delete the old identity return to Entourage menu --> Switch Identity
and delete the old identity from there.

Hope this helps!

Diane and Bill!

Thanks for the advice. Here's what we did just before close of business and before I had a chance to read your latest posts:

1. Went to Account Settings and made sure that the new identity was the new default identity.

2. Deleted the old identity and waited for Office to complete the task. (This took some time. More than 5 but less than 30 min.)

3. Shut down.

4. Restart this morning. User seems pleased now that his account is functioning the way it should.

If they way to do it is to go through "Switch identities," that's probably how other readers should do it, too. But this last twist on the solution seems to work, too. (For now. If there's any new trouble, I'll report back.)

Thanks again!
