duplicate email addresses

In Entourage 2004, I have one entry in my address book for "John Q. Public"
with one email address, "[email protected]".

When I compose a message and start typing "John" in the To: field, *two*
entries appear -- one for "John Public" and one for "John Q. Public". Both
use the same email address.

I've looked all over for the "John Public" address. It's not in the address
book (I tried searching by email address). Does Entourage store email
addresses anywhere else besides in the address book? If so, I'd like to
access that listing.

This is a minor annoyance, but I'd like to get rid of it I can. Any ideas?

thanks

Hi,

the feature you're looking for is called MRU (Most Recently Used)
AutoComplete. Have a look at this website:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/glossary/mru.html>

You've probably received emails from "John Q. Public", and, as mentioned in
the article, Entourage stores the addresses of incoming emails in the MRU
list.

Thanks much, Michel. As noted in that URL, Preferences/Compose/Clear List
gets rid of the phantom extra entry.

Note to Microsoft: Autocomplete can be a handy feature, but I'd prefer to be
able to edit MRU entries one by one. Right now the only choices are clearing
the entire MRU list or living with the entire MRU list, possibly with lots
of phantom entries.

Thanks again for your speedy reply.

You can clear just one entry. As stated on
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/glossary/mru.html> to clear one entry:

To clear a single address, add it exactly like the one that is remembered to
your address book and mark it as Junk (or assign category Junk). You can
just delete the address, but if you receive it again it will just be added
back. Marking as junk will permanently remove it from the AutoComplete list.
