Duplicate IMAP messages-Entourage 2004 11.1.1

I support several installations of Office 2004 and have seen IMAP
messages duplicated in the Inbox in Entourage 2004. I know that Paul
Berkowitz has suggested changing providers, which isn't an option as we
host email in-house and the problem doesn't affect all the 2004 clients.

In fact, I had someone up and running on Ent2004 for over 6 months
without problems until just last Thursday. Repairing the message list
works for a few send/receive cycles before the dupes return (only in
newly received messages).

The problem does not affect Entourage X at all, or any other IMAP
client. Looking at the inbox via SquirrelMail shows no dupes.

What would I need to do to troubleshoot this further? It would seem
that there is some magic number of messages in the inbox that triggers
this-that's my next avenue to explore.

I am convinced that the problem exists within Entourage 2004, not on the
server side. Re-installing and updating to 11.1.1 does not resolve the
problem. Rebuilding the account from scratch as a completely new
identity does not fix the problem-after a send/recieve cycle or two, the
dupes are back.

Entourage 2004, 11.0.0/11.1/11.1.1
Mac OS 10.3.4-10.3.8 on client
Eudora Internet Mail Server (EIMS) 3.2.6

Thanks for the pointers.

Cheers,
Jon

What is even WORSE, Jon, is the problem of DISAPPEARING EMAILS!!

I found that with Entourage 11, IMAP messages just sometimes seem to go
astray. When I first installed it I had problems with messages duplicating
themselves. I found that 'Refresh Message List' always fixed the problem -
However I didn't realise it didn't actually refresh the list from the
server, it merely fixed its own internal list.

My laptop battery was flat and I needed to read an email quickly one day, so
I used my desktop G3 for the first time in months. My laptop has V.11 but
the old G3 still has Office X installed.

I checked my email and once the IMAP messages had refreshed, I noticed there
were 511 messages and 41 unread. I knew this was really weird because when
I checked it a few minutes before with the laptop, I knew I had only about
470 messages in the IMAP mailbox, and that I had read everything on it.
When I went through and looked at the unread emails, they were ones I'd
never seen before!! Worse still, ones which people told me they'd sent but
I'd called them to ask them to re-send, thinking they had been sent to the
wrong address or something. Entourage 11 had simply ignored them and
forgotten to download them from the server!! To fix the laptop problem I
tried completely emptying the cache but it didn't fix the problem. Only
deleting the IMAP account and making it again fixed the problem. Now I
don't trust it at all. Going back to V.10 when I have time to export my POP
accounts then re-build my folder hierarchy. I don't think V.10 can import
from V.11 databases, but haven't tried it yet and doubt it will work.

VERY SCARY!!

Version X doesn't seem to have problems like this. The only thing so far
which V.11 seems to have fixed is the problem of it swapping the Apostrophes
and Commas, which happens sometimes with Windows emails.

Entourage is definitely Microsoft's best product, but that doesn't really
say much does it? Still buggy as all hell, and updates are few and far
between, usually adding more bugs than they remove.
