I installed 2008 easily enough but must have selected an incorrect option for
Entourage. I use comcast and have some messages on that server. The new
Entourage transferred all existing folders and messages plus created a new
main account. That account is receiving new messages plus it has a couple
thousand old ones that I guess were still on the server. Any suggestions about
how can I get messages to come into the folders previously used and how can I
get the rules to apply? Thanks!
What type of account POP or IMAP?
How did you import and from what application?
Basics: Even though you had downloaded the emails on another computer, you
had selected to leave the messages on the server. Entourage 2008 did not
know you had downloaded these messages.
Tip: "Get all messages left on server" one final time on Office 2004, before
launching and using Entourage 2008. After doing this check "Allow online
access" to be doubly sure all messages are downloaded to Entourage 2004. You
should see no more new messages on the server.

You need to check your rules folder destination. When importing folder ID
can get messed up. Just reselect folder in rules.
There are 3 different kind of rules in Entourage:
Mailing List Manager (MLM)
Junk Mail Filter
Rules (custom rules you create)
They run in the order listed above. The custom rules also run in the order
they are listed. (top runs first)
Use the MLM for all lists. Use rules for the remainder. Try to use
categories instead of individual addresses when possible. When a new address
is added to a contact in the Address Book then it will automatically be
acted on by the rule if you use categories in your rules. See example:

1) POP Rules act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in the Inbox (On My
Computer), NOT when it arrives in any other folder. Once it's moved to
another folder it won't be seen by rules.
2) IMAP Rules are meant to act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in
the IMAP INBOX, not when moved to another IMAP folder.
3) Exchange Rules act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in the
Exchange Inbox.
