Duplicate messages and "Find" seems broken after my system crashed

Sue Donum

I had a crash and when I opened Entourage, I found a number of duplicate
emails from the past few days. It also seems that "Find" pretty much doesn't
work (it only locates a couple of emails when I tested it with known
messages).

Duplicating messages doesn't usually happen when Entourage crashes, however,
it could cause Entourage to download them again resulting in duplicates.

When you say Find, are you using the top right search box in Entourage 2008
or are you using command-F. I highly suggest you use the Spotlight search
box. Of course, you have to enable Spotlight in Entourage preferences.

To get rid of duplicates use one of the scripts to remove duplicates.

Sue, we really need to get you in a stable database. I'll be happy to work
with you offline (no charge) to see if we can get you stabilized.

I'm sorry...Entourage didn't crash, my system did.

Both. Usually command-F creates a "blank" search window in Entourage (seems
like a new thing in 2008). But sometimes it creates a "standard" (what it
looked like in 2004) window you use to search within a specific email
message.

It is enabled. And both the Spotlight searches and the Entourage searches
were working fine before the crash.

I think you mentioned that once before...I'll be sure to get it this time.

What do I need to do? (And don't you already have too much work to do???)

What do I need to do? (And don't you already have too much work to do???)

Last night I had an apparently major corruption: I got the message from
Entourage that my database was corrupted and needed repair. I followed the
instructions, which offered to "verify" as the default choice, did the
"verify," and, as expected, was informed (after a _long_ time) that I should
do the repair. I did, and _that_ took a l-o-n-g time too (several hours).
Some of that delay may have been due to interruptions from my backup
software that was kicking in (clone and Time Machine).

Do folks have these kinds of repeating problems with other email software?
Or is it just me and my stupidity?

Sue, I've offered to help you offline but you declined. We've also
mentioned moving to a new Identity. Have you tried that. If not, I have no
further suggestions to help you. Obviously you don't want my help.

I didn't decline, Diane. I responded to you a week ago:
What do I need to do? (And don't you already have too much work to do???)

When I didn't see a response, I thought that you had just been too busy and
perhaps changed your mind. I finally posted again, because of the corruption
I just had.

I never received your message.

I posted a response, as I always do...I didn't send you an "offline"
message.

Look for my message subject "Entourage Help"

I don't know which message you're referring to...I searched through all of
the posts with subject "Entourage Help." I didn't see anything that seemed
to relate...but I don't know what specifically I'm supposed to look for.

I never got it. If you removed the "nospam" and "invalid" parts of the
address, it should've gotten to me, so I'm at a loss.

Me too. Go to the blog and send a comment to me in any of my articles. I
authored the latest one so you can use that. I have to approve before
posting but it will allow me to try and contact you. No one will be able to
see your post.

The You Talk list shows real addresses too. You can use that but you'll have
to subscribe.

Done. And I actually provided what I believe is a useful comment. :)
