Duplicate Text Boxes in Drawing Canvas

I'm using Word 2002 with a drawing canvas. Sometimes when I edit a text
box, the text in another part of the drawing canvas changes to what I'm
typing and I end up with two identical text boxes. Can enlighten me as to
what's going on and what I need to do to fix it?
