E-mailing a music file

OS X 10.2.8

A PC using friend e-mailed me with a .mid file as an attachment.
It didn't play automatically, but after double clicking it the song
Blueberry Hill played through the speakers.
How can I send music over Entourage X like he did? Couldn't find anything in
the Entourage Help on the tool bar.
Can you direct me to the instructions?

Thta kind of files is a "MIDI3 file, which means it contains specific
information to be "played" by a MIDI instrument.

When you double-clicked it, I suppose it's been played trough QuickTime
Player. QT has a set of (very siple) "virtual instruments" and so can play
that kind of files.

If you want to write such files, you have to use a musical software.

Hereby, I attached such a file (well, I suppose it is such a file you mean)
I could write in a minute using Encore, which is a commercial soft. But
there are quite a lot of that kind of soft around. Maybe searching through
Version Tracker for "MIDI Edit" you could have some answers.

If you're interested in music designing (including MIDI and also Audoi
recording) there is a cheap shareware that could be a first step: Melody
Assistant. http://www.myriad-online.com/enindex.htm

You can either attach the music file to an outgoing message (Message -> Add
Attachments) or insert the music file into the body of an outgoing message
(Message -> Insert -> Sound).
