e-mails are very large for just text

When using Outlook 2000, Windows 2000, and Word as the
outlook e-mail editor, the e-mails wind up very large.
I have set the e-mail format to be just plain text, but
still an e-mail the size of this newsgroup posting
message, may be anywhere from 5Kb to 98Kb. Responses will
be even larger.

I like to use Word as the editor, since I use the autotext
entries quite frequently when writing e-mails.

How can I reduce the e-mail size? Many of the people I
send e-mail to are at remote locations and on dial-up
connections.

Thank you, John Gregory

if you're using Word as the e-mail editor it could be the
formattting that word uses on all it's docuements that
gives you slightly larger files.
5KB for a posting of that size sounds about normal,
however, 90+ is not. (unless there are attachments)
Why don't you try removing Word as the editor and see if
that decreases the file size a little.

Tools>Options>Mail Format Tab>Uncheck the 'use Word as
e-mail editor....

It couldn't hurt to give that a try, it can be changed
back.

The file sizes are OK if I do not use Word as the e-mail
editor. Word just gives me many convenient functions that
the Outlook editor.

It is just an option that I would like to use. Microsoft
would not have added this feature if it did not work
properly... would they??

I can not uninstall/reinstall. This is a company computer
that uses a "Gold Load" that has the OS, MS Office, and
company software bundled. The IT guys can not even do it,
their only option is to re-gold-load it. When that
happens you have to re-install all of your own stuff and
import all of the setting files, etc.

Any other ideas?
