EDB and STM databse shuffling on Exchange

We have a large number of Entourage clients and are having issues with
timeouts and login messages on our Windows and OSX clients. The report
from MS is that this is caused by the way Entourage shuffles data
between the EDB and STM. With a large number of users doing this, the
Disk Array utilization is pegged and timeouts are happening.

MS has no answer as to how to fix this on the server end, and only
advice is to make the OSX clients use IMAP. The lose a bunch of
functionality...and I don't think this is a good solution....

Anyone else know of this problem and/or a possible solution?

That would indeed not be a good solution. I don't have any workaround
though :-\
I can't believe that is the solution MS support gave you :-( They could
just as well have recommended to use Mail over IMAP/Exchange :-(
