Editing and Sorting Mail Lists

Carl A. Swedberg

Good morning!

I'm recovering from a corrupted database and have had to recreate my Address
Book. Because Comcast limits the number of addressees in group mailings,
I've made a number of Groups. I used to be able to modify addresses within
the Groups by double-clicking the name and editing the address. I had been
able to sort by last name, but now it sorts by first name. Entourage Help
doesn't, so I'm hoping someone can provide an answer. Thanks.

Appreciate the recommendation regarding Split Recipients and will look at
the Script and see if I can figure out how to use it. But I would still
appreciate an answer to the basic question as to how to modify E-mail
addresses in a list and how to sort by last name vice 1st. Before my
corrupted database problems, I used to double click on an E-mail address in
a list and would be able to change the address. Now double clicking just
opens that particular individual in my Address Book.

The Address Book displays the names as FirstName LastName, but they are
sorted in alphabetical order by LAST name, not first name.

Groups are another matter - they indeed are sorted by first name. Get Paul
Berkowitz's script Group Sort X. This script will sort the group entries
(group members) of either a selected group in the Address Book, or one or
more groups you choose from a list, or all your groups - whatever you choose
- into alphabetical order by last name in one quick pass

Diane,

Many thanks for pointing me to the Group Sort script. Only one question
still remaining...before my corrupted database problems, I used to double
click on an E-mail address in a list and would be able to change the
address. Now double clicking just opens that particular individual in my
Address Book. How do I modify E-mail addresses in a group list? I know I
can do it by adding the new and deleting the old, but I didn't have to do
that before and can't understand why I now can't modify/correct an E-mail
address as I did before?

If you don't change the original contact, the group address will not be
updated if changes are made to the Address Book contact info. If the person
is in your group only then you can click on the address to edit.

Note contacts not in your Address Book have a blue circle in front of the
name. Contacts in your Address Book have the little man symbol.
