I have a file that I need to add some slides to but it has an embedded font
and wont allow me to edit it. How do you bypass that to be able to edit the
file? Any ideas?

This should help.
PowerPoint opens presentations as Read-Only, won't allow editing when fonts
embedded

If you are using PPT 2003, make sure you have all the updates installed.
Once the latest service pack is installed, you will get asked if you want to
replace the offending font. Do that and resave the presentation. POOF - the
problem is gone :)

(Steve, this should get updated in the FAQ someday...)
