Electronic Invitation via forms

Adam

Hey! I pastor a new church in Charlotte, NC. I've seen
other churches use an "electronic invitation" form where
their members can invite their friends to the church by
inputting their friends name and email address and their
own name and email address. After clicking "Submit",
their friends are automatically sent an email with the
form values merged into the email. HOW CAN I DO THIS?

Thanks,
Adam

Hi Adam,

Glad to see a brother around!

You can do that with ASP or ASP.NET. Check to see what your hosting company
supports. If they support ASP, you can use CDOSYS to accomplish that. Your
hosting company may also provide a component to send e-mail.

If they support ASP.NET, it's even easier! I use quite a bit of e-mail
functionality on my church's Web site (www.newhopelutheran.com), and I did
it with ASP.NET. It's quite easy to do.

Let me know if I can be of any assistance to you.

Thanks for responding to my question on the newsgroup. I
don't know if my hosting service allows asp's. I use
ipowerweb.com. They've been great so far for over a
year. How do I find out? Thanks for your help.

Just try this link to go to the invitation form that I've
gotten so far.

www.dadshouse.com/invitation.htm

When you hit "Preview Invitation", it takes you to the
template of the letter I want it to use, but I can't
figure out how to input the values from the form into
the "Preview Invitation" and then send it out as an email
from there.

Thanks again!
Adam

Adam,

Your host is not hosting on Windows machines. Therefore, you have to use
PHP to do what you are trying to do. I'm not versed in PHP. Perhaps
someone else in the group can point you to a resource.

Adam,

Check with your ISP / WPP most Unix based providers provide the program
FormMail which will allow you to accomplish this.
