Email Database

Does Entourage keep a file of emails on the local machine for exchange emails and pop accounts. Like and OST file? If so where is it located? I looked for it in documents under MSFT User Data but it didn't have todays date on it so I suspected it wasn't what I was looking for.

Problem is somehow I lost all of the emails in my inbox and what to restore if possible from a previous local file (obviously they are also gone off the server.

I always know when I get a difficult one to reply to..........I did try to restore the MSFT Data Base from 4 hours earlier and NOTHING! My inbox looked the same. I have no idea how or why that would happen unless the fact of the matter is Time Machine does not work.

No. POP mail is local, but Exchange mail is stored on your server.

Entourage stores your POP data in your Identity:

Rules, mailing lists, signatures, messages, address book, schedules,
contacts, tasks, notes, calendar are located in a database:

Your Identity is named Main by default.

Entourage 2008: ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities/your
identity

Entourage allows you to access most of your Exchange data that is located on
YOUR server.
Problem is somehow I lost all of the emails in my inbox and what to restore if

server.

Which Inbox?

You should not let Time Machine backup your data. 1) copying every hour will
quickly fill up your drive 2) a database copied during use can be corrupted
making it useless. See these articles on alternatives

Entourage and Time Machine (creates chronological backup of Identity can be
used by both Tiger and Leopard)

Entourage synchronizes your Exchange data and therefore keeps a copy of
your messages on your computer. They are located in /Users/<your
account>/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities/Database.

If your message store has been compromised on the server and you allow
Entourage to synchronize then those messages will be gone too. You must
keep your computer offline while opening Entourage and then drag those
messages to the folders "On My Computer". Allow Entourage to sync to
Exchange and then copy your messages back to your Exchange account.

You should be aware that the Office 11.4.0 update that was recently
released included a fix for a rare problem between Entourage, Exchange
and E-mail scanning services that could result in data loss.
Essentially, if your Exchange account is being scanned while you also
access it via Entourage then a delay will occur that Entourage 11.3.9
and earlier interpreted as "no items". Therefore, it would delete your
local messages. Then, Entourage would sync with Exchange and really
erase your data.

Hope this helps!
