Does Entourage keep a file of emails on the local machine for
exchange emails and pop accounts. Like and OST file? If so where is
it located? I looked for it in documents under MSFT User Data but it
didn't have todays date on it so I suspected it wasn't what I was
looking for.
Problem is somehow I lost all of the emails in my inbox and what to
restore if possible from a previous local file (obviously they are
also gone off the server.
Entourage synchronizes your Exchange data and therefore keeps a copy of
your messages on your computer. They are located in /Users/<your
account>/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities/Database.
If your message store has been compromised on the server and you allow
Entourage to synchronize then those messages will be gone too. You must
keep your computer offline while opening Entourage and then drag those
messages to the folders "On My Computer". Allow Entourage to sync to
Exchange and then copy your messages back to your Exchange account.
You should be aware that the Office 11.4.0 update that was recently
released included a fix for a rare problem between Entourage, Exchange
and E-mail scanning services that could result in data loss.
Essentially, if your Exchange account is being scanned while you also
access it via Entourage then a delay will occur that Entourage 11.3.9
and earlier interpreted as "no items". Therefore, it would delete your
local messages. Then, Entourage would sync with Exchange and really
erase your data.
Hope this helps!
