Email divided between 2 accounts!

Please help, I'm desperate. In an attempt to recreate an account after
a corrupt database, I made the mistake of creating a new account and
instead of downloading all my email, it only picked off new email
leaving previous email in my old account. I think this is because it
uses POP. This means that my email is divided between 2 accounts.

Is there an easy way to reconcile the 2 accounts into one account? The
old account has a corrupt database and I wanted to start afresh with a
new account with all my email stored as it was in its previous folders.
Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

Open the old database and export all e-mails to an archive, then in the
new one, import the archive.
That should do the trick :)

Hi,

you actually had me confused for a while until I realised you were talking
about identities, not accounts. In Entourage, accounts refer to emails;
identities refer to different user databases.

First of all, have you tried rebuilding your old database? To do so, hold
down the Option key when launching Entourage, then follow the onscreen
instructions. If a rebuild fixes your old database, you'll still need to get
your emails from one identity to the other. The simplest way to do this is
through .mbox export: select an email folder from the folder list in your
old identity, then drag it to the desktop. You'll now get a standard .mbox
file, which, after switching to your new identity (Entourage>Switch
Identity), you can drag back into the folder list. Export all your folders
individually, then restore them in your new identity, and all should be well
again. I would absolutely recommend rebuilding the old identity first, just
to avoid problems during the export, when you will need to access the old
identity again.

If you have any further questions, post back, and don't forget to mention
the version of Entourage you are using (v.X, 2004, any updates that you have
applied, and so on). Good luck.

Thanks Corentin. Will that work even thought the old database cannot be
rebuilt?

If you can open it, you have a chance to be able to export the e-mails.
If you can't export them, try using drag and drop to the Finder.

Hi Michel, thanks for your advice. I have tried rebuilding the old
database but it appears to be too corrupt, hence trying to set up a new
account (or identity??) My concern is that the email in the old
identity will not be able to be retrieved because it is corrupt. I
thought that I would be able to flow all of the email in from the
server and at the same time maintain the original folder structure that
was held in that identity. Instead I have ended up with 2 identities
with separate batches of dates of emails and not getting the folders'
structure back in the new identity. I am using version X.

Hi,

if the old database cannot be rebuilt, I'm afraid you're out of luck. You
will need to access it in order to export your emails, so you will
absolutely need to open it in Entourage itself. If your emails are still on
your server (depending on the amount of time that has gone by since you
started using your email account and the number of emails you may have
received, this could be quite unlikely), you might be able to retrieve them.
Go to Tools>Accounts and double-click on your email account. Click on the
Options tab in the Edit Account window, then click on the "Get all messages
left on server" button at the bottom of the screen and see if that does the
job. Apart from that, there's really not much you can do with a database
that is so beyond repair that it can no longer be accessed by Entourage.

Oh dear, its not looking good for me. I can't drag the any folders to
the desktop nor can I choose to export. All options are greyed out and
I get the following error whenever I try:
"Could not open that feature. Mail error".
The only options available are to Hide Entourage!
Is there anyway I can get any of this back and keep the folders?
Thanks.

I've also seen that with FInder issues. A simple reboot allowed me to
get back to it. Can you try ??
