Email Error Message

David Voth

The following entourage error message appears every time I send an
email:

Mail could not be sent using the account "David M. Voth."
An unknown error (5354) occurred

Nevertheless, the message is actually sent. In fact as long as it
stays in the outbox it continues to be resent over and over again.

My ISP has no answers about how I can fix this.

I have tryed reentering my account information manually.

We have some error messages documented but not this one. It is in the
category of errors that involve your ISP. Check out numbers that are close
to 5354:

Do you have another account with this ISP that you can send email with no
problems?

Deleting preferences might help.

~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Entourage.plist

~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Entourage Preferences

You could also try a rebuild of the database.

How to rebuild your database:
If you¹re in Entourage X, first go to Entourage -> Turn Off Office
Notifications. Quit Entourage, and then restart Entourage holding down the
Option key. When the Rebuild dialog box comes up, choose to do a Typical
Rebuild.

Hope this helps

It's surprising that there doesn't seem to be any answers out there
about this problem. However, there seems to be a lot of people
experiencing it. By typing "error 5354" in Google it comes back with
over 10,000. It appears to be a big problem. Furthermore, although it
may appear to be a ISP problem it is actually a Microsoft bug. I hope
someone creates a fix for it soon since it's very annoying.

I'm really interested in how you know it's a MS bug. If you are able to
determine this I'm sure we would all like to hear your process. Maybe this
would help others find a fix for the error.
