Please help, I am trying to send a email Christmas card to ever body
in my address book or better still to everybody who has sent me a
mail. Is there a easy way to email all in my address book, (BCC)
I guess the simplest way would be to click on the "contact type" header
column (the little contact icon) in the Address Book to sort out the
contacts from the groups. Click on the topmost contact, scroll down to the
bottom contact (not group), press Shift key. That selects all contacts.
Click "Add Group" button to make a new group "All Contacts", and check the
box "Don't show addresses when sending to group" in the new group window
that comes up.
Then send a message to this new group. Most ISPs have a limit as to how many
recipients they'll send to at once, to prevent spam, and will refuse to send
the message, however. Phone them up and ask them what their limit is. Get my
"Split Recipients X" script which should. I think treat each group member as
an BCC recipient (you may need to "Expand Group" in the Address Pane first,
but I don't think so) and will send only as many messages as necessary to
meet your ISP's limit. Or you could get "Separate Group Messages" script
(it's listed with the Entourage 2001 scripts but will work fine in X) to
send a separate message to each recipient but that will be slower and more
tedious. Get the scripts at
MacScripter.net <
http://macscripter.net/scriptbuilders/>
(Or you could press command-A while one contact is to selected in the
Address Book, which will select all the groups as well if you have groups
that have a lot of non-contact group members with the "@" sign. But you're
going to get lots and lots of duplicates this way- from each contact-type
group member. The "Split Recipients" script should eliminate duplicates as
it works, I think.)
Also is there a way to check for duplicate names?
There's an "extra" script called Same Names Finder in shareware Sync
Entourage-Address Book package which does that for actual duplicates in the
Address Book. But it wouldn't catch contacts who are members of other groups
if you included those groups. The Split Recipients script will not duplicate
whatever exact duplicates occur within one script run, I think.
