Email in trash cannot delete

I am currently using Entourage X on OS 10.3.4. I have received two
phantom emails that have no viewable sender or date and are now in my
deleted items folder. When I try to delete the individual emails, an
error message pops up saying "action could not be completed - mail
error." Everytime I hit OK the error appears again immediately and I
eventually have to force quit the program. Has anyone heard of this
or know how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

What was the last time you rebuilt the database? m.

It's a new (couple of months old) G4 powerbook. The database has
never been rebuilt. AMC.

Give that a try. In Entourage X, first go to Entourage -> Turn Off Office
Notifications. Now, quit Entourage, and then restart Entourage holding down
the Option key. When the Rebuild dialog box comes up, choose to do a
Typical Rebuild. If that does not fix the problem, repeat the procedure,
instead opting to do the Advanced Rebuild.
