email problem

I can receive email but I can't send it. I'm connecting to an ISP from
a DSL service. I've tried changing the SMTP settings in the account.
I've only had the problem for a few days and things were working before
that. I get an error message #23016. Can anyone help? Thanks

Are you connecting to the smtp server for the ISP associated with your DSL
service?

For example, if you use earthlink is your ISP (and provides your DSL), are
you using smtp.earthlink.com, or are you using a third party SMTP server?
If the later, try the former.

Many ISPs have begun to block outgoing traffic on port 25 (the SMTP port) to
prevent people from originating spam on their network.

I have the same problem. (See "Mail Send Error" message posted Wed Feb 2nd)

Did you recently install the latest Junk E-mail filter from Microsoft? I
have not been able to send mail since I installed that update.

Sorry I did not come with a solution, but hopefully someone out there will
be able to help.

If Matt is right, and you are a .Mac member, switch to using smtp.mac.com
which is an authenticated server - it asks for, and Entourage automatically
supplies, your .mac password when you send. (Set this up in Tools >
Accounts.) This process protects the server from spammers, but means you can
send no matter how you are connected to the net.

This is a really useful - and largely unheralded - feature of .Mac
membership, especially for laptop users who move around a lot and regularly
connect through different ISPs. For me, this alone justifies the cost of
..Mac membership.
