email save to .msg file append vs. overwrite

When attempting to save a message as a .msg to a folder,
if the subject lines are the same (in the case of a reply,
or threaded message), it prompts to overwrite the previous
message. I have a user who was able to save email and the
system would append a (1) or (2) to the file name. He was
upgraded to a new pc, and now is getting prompted to
overwrite and would like to have the append convention
back. How do I turn this back on for him? Thanks for any
help.
