Email staying in Outbox

Hi,
Something strange is going on with my Outlook 2000. I am running XP and
until recently it was sending and recieving fine. Now, when I create a new
message and hit the send button it goes into my outbox. I do have the "send
immediately" checked in my options and cannot find any reasong as to why it
is leaving it in my outbox until I hit the send and recieve button. Any
ideas? Thanks for the help, Kat
