emails come in with charchters all mixed up

Some emails that I get (they're from a few specific email lists I'm
on) come in with the letters all funny. If I hit forward or
reply,Entourage includes the original email, with the correct letters!
For some reason, on the original mail, it's showing the characters
funny, but on forwards it shows them okay?!?

For example, an email I received today says:

Vj g"c wvj qt"y kuj gu "vq "tgo kpt"cpqp {o q wu

When I dragged those chacters into this email, look what it says:

The author wishes to remain anonymous

Any ideas for what may cause this and how to fix it?

didn't do anything, but then I read your response, trashed those two
cache files, reloaded, and all my garbled emails are clear now.
