Emails gone missing

A friend of mine uses entourage on the mac and I am trying to help her.
She is fairly computer illiterate and lives remotely from me so I would
be greatful if you could help me guess what she may have done.

She had a bunch of emails saved in folders. She wanted to send these to
someone else and, the way she describes it, she dragged the emails out
of their folders into another area and then sent the resulting email
.... I am not familiar with entourage but I am guessing that she dragged
them from the folders where they were saved onto a mail message to add
them as attachments.

However, this seems to have removed all the dragged emails from her
folders and she can't find them any more.

Any ideas as to where or why they would have disappeared?

Hi,

it's kind of difficult to make any decisive statement in this case, since
the description of the problem is rather vague. ;) Anyway, tell your friend
to do an advanced find (Edit>Advanced Find). For "Item Types", she should
make sure to select "Messages"; for "Locations", she should select "All
Folders" from the dropdown list. In the "Criteria" section, she can then
enter the subject line of one of these messages, or if she'd rather use the
sender's email address, she can select "From" from the dropdown list and
enter that data. She will then be presented with a result window in which
Entourage displays all the emails it could find according to the previous
criteria. Your friend can then simply drag these emails back to the folder
where she likes to keep them.
