We run an exchange server, with almost everyone here using PCs. My boss and
I still run Macs, and use Entourage with IMAP as our email client. This
morning, he showed me his deleted items folder, which had emails going back
to 6/2/04, which is not as far back as they went last week. He said he had
emails in there from 2003, and wanted to know where his emails were. He is
using Entourage X, running on the latest version of Jaguar.
Searching through the old newsgroup messages, I found this one from March:
This sounds very similar to my problem, except that this is the first time
this has happened. However, my Deleted Items folder wasn't affected, and my
messages go back to November 03. I am using Entourage 2001, running on OS
9.1
I'd appreciate any help anyone could give. Those emails have been written
off, but I'd like to know how to prevent this from happening again. Thanks.

If she;s using the Exchange server's Deleted Items folder (which would be
normal), not the local Deleted folder, then yes, if the server's IT nasters
have a "clean up" procedure implemented (also normal) items will be deleted
when they run a maintenance schedule. If she doesn't actually want to delete
messages, she shouldn't use the Deleted Items folder. She should create a
"Halfway House - I Can't Really Make Up my Mind" folder and move the
messages there instead of deleting them.
