emails received look corrupted

In one of the mailing lists I'm in, some of the emails are coming
though looking corrupted, with just a bunch of gibberish. BUT, if I
reply to the email, the gibberish text is converted to normal words.
What would be causing this?

I have rebuilt my Entourage database and run my antivirus (Intego
VirusBarrier). Still getting gibberish on *some* emails. Did a test to
see if it was the HTML or plain text. Looks like it's plain text, but
not all of the plain text emails look corrupted.
