When I open an email, then close it, it simply disappears...it no longer is in the Inbox, the Junk box, the Delete Box,it is nowheres to be found.

When I open an email, then close it, it simply disappears...it no longer is in
the Inbox, the Junk box, the Delete Box,it is nowheres to be found.

A likely explanation is that you are displaying unread messages only. Once
you read it, it is no longer unread, so naturally it disappears from the
list. Look under the View menu, and if Unread Only is selected, deselect it.
