embedded .dat/.txt files

My Outlook 2000 is sending attachments embedded with the
emails. They look like .dat or .txt files. How do I get
rid of these?

Change the sending format to Plain Text or HTML. Rich Text is a
Microsoft-proprietary format that is not recognized by anything by Outlook.
