Embedding MP3 audio clip...

I've figured a way to embed mp3 files into a presentation so that you
don't need to send them separately in a folder, and it works,..BUT I
would like someone's assistance in taking it to the next step and
helping me figure a way to hide the media player from appearing when
the music first begins playing (it does go away thereafter).

Thanks!

Well, it depends on how you've embedded the MP3. Sounds like you're
embedding a media player object -- wanna run us through what you've done?

What I did was this:

Insert Object (to insure the file stays embedded and it did)
Chose Browse and located mp3 file on my drive
after it appeared on the slide, I right clicked on mp3 file icon and
added custom animation to the object to open automatically when the
slide is started.

Problem1:
Slide opens up and music begins to play (but only after it opens the
Media player first)

Problem2:
You have to click on the slide (or space bar) to get the player to go
away AND to allow the presentation's slide transition settings to take
place (auto advance)

I would like to have the player either be invisible or go away on it's
own so that the slides can advance as set.

Well, when I try this here using PPT 2003 and WMP 9.0, the slides do advance
on their own. Now, the Windows Media Player does show up on top of my
presentation file, and I have to physically click it to make it go away.
(Although sometimes it does minimize to the task bar almost immediately. Not
sure what I've done to make that happen, though.)

This is pretty much what Insert|Object is designed to do -- open whatever
file in whatever application its file type is associated with.

You can use Insert|Movies and Sounds|Sound from File to work around this,
but that doesn't (as you know) embed the MP3. One method to work around
*that* issue is to convert the MP3 to a RIFF WAV, which adds WAV headers to
the MP3 so it can be embedded like a WAV would be. However, there's
anecdotal evidence that these files don't play on all systems -- ISTR that
Win 98 and Win 98 SE might be the ones having troubles with these files.
Anyone remember or know for sure?

http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00155.htm has a link to CDex and Riffmp3,
which will both do this kind of conversion.
