Empty Deleted @mails very slow...

Email Client: pop

I have recently resigned from my company and in accordance with policy, I have removed all company @mails from my identity. There are a ton! When I go to empty the Deleted Items folder, it is taking a very long time (as much as 20 - 30 min). I have rebuilt the database; verified it, and I get that the database is working fine. When in this cleanup process, I am unable to use Entourage to create or view items.

1. Is this normal?
2. Should I consider creating a new identity and importing the old?

What are your thoughts?

Thank you,

Pierre

Give it some time and see if all emails are deleted.

Certain activities will hang up Entourage like the mass delete. I would do
this at night when you don't need to use Entourage.

Diane,
As always, you are nothing short of AWESOME! Yup, it took a while but eventually emptied. Man, I would be so dead were it not for Time Machine!

Thank you for your prompt reply. As a preventative measure, I also rebuilt the database since it was near 2gb prior to the deletes. It dropped to just under 400mb after.

Do not let Time Machine backup Entourage while it's in use. It can result in
corrupted data. I've been working with a user that tried to access what they
thought would be a working backup from Time Machine and found it was totally
unusable.

Entourage and the Microsoft Database daemon should be quit when backed up.
Follow these instructions to backup ONCE a day to Time Machine.

Alternative method to use Entourage and Time Machine (does a once a day or
whatever time period you select) This quits Entourage and the Microsoft
Database daemon allowing for once a day backup into Time Machine.

Hi Roger,

Just this nasty habit I have of typing email as @mail - nothing more :)
