emptying the Entourage Trash folder

Over the weekend a list I am subscribed to got hit with 2000 copies of
rejection notices from attempted Melissa viruses, so my mail server
INBOX was filled with this garbage. I used Entourage to do mass deletes,
resulting in over 2000 messages in my Entourage Trash folder.
All my attempts to clear out this folder have had no effect.
A lot of time goes by, and finally, the folder has just as
many messages as it ever did.

I clean out the Trash folder frequently under more normal circumstances
and have never had this problem...

Does anyone know how to clear out this folder?

I assume when you say the Entourage Trash folder, you really mean the
Deleted Items folder. Anyway, define a Schedule (Tools>Schedules) that
empties the Deleted Items folder as frequently as you wish. I have mine run
every day and delete all items in the Deleted Items folder that is older
than 3 days (gives me a chance to recover if I want something I deleted
recently).

No, I really mean "Trash". This must be a folder I created and
assigned all my deleted messages to when I first configured the
account. It's hard to remember why I did this, since I converted to
Entourage 18 months ago and set up all of my accounts then and haven't
changed any options since..

Anyway, through persistence I managed to delete the Trash folder and
all its contents, then recreate it on the server and subscribe to it.
I couldn't do this on the first 10 tries. But then I rebuilt the
database and even did an advanced rebuild; after all that I was able
to delete the folder.
