Enabling Macros in Word 2003

R

Ron O'Brien

Just installed Office 2003 Professional. Also installed Symantec's Winfax
Pro which puts a fax send incon in the Word tool bar.

Now everytime I start Word I am initially told the page won't open because
of a macro, then when I click OK a security warning tells me that
c:\....office11\startup\wfword2k.dot contains a macro. If I click on enable
the macro I can proceed, but this happens everytime.

I tried the Help file which told me to permit the macro from the vendor
list, but the macro or vendor wasn't listed in the place it directed me to
(sorry I can't recall all the keystrokes!!!)

I've also tried the manual means to add a digitally signed signature, but
again, there's no mention of the vendor or macro in any of the options.

Ron,

Your Macro Security setting sounds as though it's on Medium, which means
that it will prompt you to enable or disbale all macros.

You can set your Macro Security level to Low, which means that it will
automatically enable all macros, but this is not the recommended security
setting since you may inadvertently run a malicious macro etc.

Nevertheless, to set your Macro Security to Low, follow these steps:

1) Within Word go to Tool-->Macro-->Security
2) Select Low and press OK.

Hi, Ron. What version of Winfax Pro do you have? Word 2002 requires
Winfax Pro 10.02 or later. I'm not sure what version works with Word
2003. In any case, you might be better off uninstalling the Winfax
add-in for Word, because many users experience startup problems when the
Winfax add-in is installed.

Hi

Thanks for that. I have contacted Symantec who make Winfax as I am sure
there must be a proper work around whilst still enabling macro security, I
really don't want to set security to low
