Ent 2004 Autocorrect dictionary seems different from Word 2004's

I would expect that Entourage and Word and all other Office products would
share the same autocorrect dictionary. But I don¹t get the same results in
Ent that I do in Word.

Before I go rooting around on the drive, can someone just tell me where the
ruling dictionary lives and how to make it the default for all Office
programs? I have a lot of little glossary words that I don¹t like to type
set up to expand from a few letters.

Thanks.

The autocorrect entries (aka ACL file) are kept in
~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Microsoft Office ACL [English]

They are designed to use the same ACL file--what is not working for you?
Ent 2001 is funky about certain punctuation, but all the words should
operate properly. AutoCorrect is language-dependent, which can give issues.
Perhaps your Entourage is not set to the right flavor of English?

I do not believe it is possible to edit the ACL file other than via the Word
Tools AutoCorrect dialog, as least Word 2001 will let me open the custom
dictionary via File | Open but not the ACL file. But haven't tested in Word
2004, and an editable ACL file should be a feature request, I think.

If you look under Tools | AutoCorrect in Entourage, it may give you some
info.

Do you work for MicroSoft.

I would prefer no answer than a curt referral to an unhelpful FAQ.

Thanks very much.

The problem seems to be that Office 2004 decided it needed to overwrite my
Office X ACL dictionary. So all of my autocorrect shortcuts have been
deleted. I guess I'll be finding more such pleasant surprises in the coming
days.

Walt -

Sorry for the testy response. I know you are trying to help.

And a link to a faq is fine, as long as it really addresses my issue.
Thanks.

No, I don't work for MS. That's Dave.

If you go to that link, and follow the directions given on it, you will see
the path where the file is located.

Dear God, I hope not!!!! Tragedy!

Okay, try this. In Word 2004, the ACL file is named Microsoft Office ACL
[English]. In Word X, it is named MS Office ACL [English]. I suspect you
have 2 ACL files in the ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft folder, one for each
version (hope you didn't remove Office X before installing 2004, or backed
up).

Try renaming the Word X one to match 2004 (copy it first, just in case) and
deleting the 2004 one (copy first), and see if Word 2004 will pick it up.
Let me know what happens, I'm not in Word 2004 yet but in charge of writing
a resource article for the MVP site including this issue, and have been
wanting to know how one handles moving AC entries (and custom dictionaries)
to a new version anyhow.
