Anyone know how to prevent the links from breaking when compacting and
rebuilding the database cache file?

Hi Sam,
I think that is a tradeoff when rebuilding a database--you lose all
links, Hotmail account and IMAP accounts.

PS--Add Exchange too!

settings or losing the contents for good. All that happens during a rebuild
is that your cache for these accounts is cleared, and messages need to be
re-downloaded to be read, which in most cases is not a major problem. It
doesn't result in data loss.

The BIG problem (for me anyway) with loosing the IMAP Cache and another
reason for me to wait with our Office 2004 rollout is, that it makes the
GREAT NEW Projectcenter pretty darn useless. As it is (who did never have to
rebuild the erage database?), you just have to occasionally rebuilt your
database or flush the IMAP cache (see message about phantom emails), but
then all the hours of work to sort emails into Projects in Projectcenter are
lost/wasted.
My suggestion to MS to implement this better is, to make use of the UNIQUE
imap message ids. If a message is linked to a project, store the imap id in
the erage database. That way, if we have to clear the IMAP cache, the
database entries from project center could still remember the IMAP ID and
thus relink to the correct messages after an IMAP Cache refresh.
