Entourage 2004 Attachments deleted?

H

Henry

Every attachment I get in email (whether the message itself is good or
junk) of any type attachment (.doc file is typical) is "automatically
deleted" and apparently is not individually stored anywhere. I read
that deleted messages are stored in a database of some kind. I get a
notification in the header that this is done but not an indication on
how to recover the message. Where and how can I access them?

How can I change this automatic deletion?

It sounds to me like it's being done by your ISP (i.e. somewhere on the
network, before the message gets to your computer at all). So this would
not be an Entourage question. m.

This did not happen on my former email client, Gyazmail with this same
account. I guess if that the general consensus then I'll have to give
up and go back to that. I should mention that this happens on another
account.

I just checked an attached message sent from an alternate mail address
with a small 56KB attachment received in Mail and in Entourage from the
same ISP account. Mail received the message and attachment OK, while
Entourage received the message with the "deleted from Server" message
instead of attachment.

Check your Rules (Tools/Rules/Mail (POP) or (IMAP) depending which sort of
account you have - sounds like POP.

Also check your account settings in both Entourage and Mail. Do you "leave
mail on server" on both? (In Entourage that's on the Options page of
Tools/Accounts/that account/Edit). Maybe when messages are downloaded to
Mail the attachments are removed from the server.

Information

Thanks for the info, Paul.

Maybe I wasn't too clear. I first tried to download a message with an
attachment from Entourage. It is set to keep messages on the server for 10
days or to delete when the message is deleted from Entourage. No attachment
came over.

Then I tried it from Mail (OS X Mail.app). It downloaded that message with
the attachment. It is also set to keep messages on the server, however I
think this is irrelevant to this problem due to the sequence that I used.
Nevertheless that's what was done.

I rarely have used Mail since installing, using and liking Entourage Office
2004.

It isn't that you weren't clear: it's that you completely omitted all
hint of this information in your original post. Did you expect us to
*guess* this? m.

Thanks for the info, Paul.

Tried to change the options to not check the "leave on Server"
checkbox. That finally worked to get most attachments. However pictures
are still not "automatically" downloaded to any account in the case of
HTML messages. I have to click on "download pictures" each time to
download '.gif' or parts of html messages. Better than before. Isn't
there a way to get it perfect?

I heavily filter junk mail and bad message attachments just don't
bother me. I use SpamSieve and turn off Entourage's junk filter
completely. I use few html messages and send none if possible.
