Entourage 2004 authentication errors

Hi y'all,

I've been searching through this list (and various other resources), but I
can't find a solution to my problem, so here it is. Perhaps one of you
experts can help me out:

I receive e-mail fine on Entourage. However, with the e-mail server that is
my primary account, and ISP, from which others use pop access with other
versions of Entourage, I cannot send mail.

I am using pop access, and it downloads fine. If I choose not to require
smtp authentication, then it will send to within the same domain, but gives
me the error 17092 if I try to send outside of the domain. If I choose to
require smtp authentication, then it will not send (at all) and gives me the
error (which many people seem to have gotten) 17897.

Anticipated thanks for all of your help,
Nina

this is because of the ssl + smtp protocol known as TLS currently
mostly only MS is starting to require this, also exchange server
suppports this, most comon isp do not support this yet.

Thanks for your responses.

My network does not support SSL. Do you think that this will still work?
If so, I¹m happy to try it, but can you tell me how to configure it for
SMTP?

Thanks again,
Nina

I have EntourageX and I am getting similar authentication errors when I log
into my email server remotely. I am using a Email server called Imail from
IPSwitch. But...something is wrong when I turn on the "server requires
authentication option" in Entourage.

I get the message back from EntourageX that " The SMTP server does not
recognize any of the authentication methods supported by Entourage. To send
mail disable SMTP authorization" "Unknown error 5530".

Any help with this issue would be appreciated. I would love for my road
warriors to be able to send and receive email from my imail server using the
email client that they use in the office, meaning Entourage.

The funny thing is that Outlook express for the Macintosh works as
advertised and will authenticate email and allow the user to send email
outside of our domain.

Thanks Mike
