Entourage 2004 cannot migrate Entourage X identity

R

Richard Fosse

I have just bought and installed Office (Entourage) 2004
on my new G4. I am currently running Entourage X on my old
iMac (2 login accounts). I want to migrate the iMac
accounts to my new G4. I have the two machine connected
via e LAN ethernet network and can mount the iMac thereby
I have used the Wizard and it asks me to browse to
User/Documents/Micrsoft etc etc. It then cannot find the
appropriate Entourage identity. When I then dig down to
the Office X identities file the Database that contains
the ID is greyed out and cannot be accessed from the
Wizard. Any ideas?

i think the path should remain this: <Hard Disk>\users\<user>\documents\Microsoft user data\Office X Identities and with in this folder
you should find all your identities here which you need to copy to <Hard Disk>\users\<user>\documents\Microsoft user data\Office 2004
Identities, after you upgrade.

You need drag over the Microsoft User Data folder to your Documents folder
on your new G4. Entourage will use the same MUD folder to store Entourage X
Identities and Entourage 2004 Identities. (different identity folders, of
course). When you launch Entourage 2004 it will find the Entourage X
identity. You do not select the database file. Select the Identity.

Have done this and to no avail - I still have my original empty
Entourage ID.

Is there a menu command to select identity or create new identity or
does this happen when I create a new user account?

I'm facing the same problem. And the paths are identical (one's Office X
Identities under Microsoft Office X and one's Office 2004 Identities under
Microsoft Office 2004, otherwise identical). In the identities folders there's a
folder Main Identity. But when I browse to it doing the import and choose it,
no identities are found/appear in the box. These are the default paths (I
havent messed with anything), so it would seem the feature just doesnt
work (makes me wonder why I'm trying to run MS products anyway).

Any ideas appreciated!

The Microsoft User Data folder can contain different versions of Office's
Identities. You can have Office 2004 Identities folder and Office X
Identities in the same Microsoft User Data folder.

You cannot import via a network. Just copy your Entourage X Identity folder
over to the new computer. When asked to find the database, browse to the
location of the Office X Identity folder. You do not select the contents,
you select the Identity folder.

I found a solution - finally: in Entourage X I created new identity,
have quit Entourage, manualy copied content of my old Main Identity to
that newly created identity and run Entourage 2004: importer still did
not see my identities, however, after manual browsing and selecting
that newly created one it suddenly appears in selection window an
import process can continue!!!
