Entourage 2004 conduit sync problem with Palm 4.1

Kreg Rowe

My Handspring Treo 600 Smart Phone using the latest Palm software (4.1)
appears to be syncing with Entourage 2004 but fails to actually sync my
contacts and appointments with my Mac using the Panther operating
system. When I sync the phone with the Mac it goes through the routine and
even does a backup but no changes are actually made to the phone records
or the Mac records. Has anyone else eperienced this problem? If so, do
you have a suggested fix?

Please email: [email protected]

Thank you

Yes I have the same problem. I guess the old handheld synch patch for
Entourage X doesn't work for Entourage 2004. When will Microsoft come
out with a new patch??? Wish I had known this before I upgraded...

This issue has been addressed many times in this space over the last couple
of weeks. The old Handheld Sync for Entourage X will not work fro Entourage
2004. Re-insert your Office 2004 CD, and find the new sync under Additional
Tools. Install it, read the Read Me, and take the time to set up the new
conduit correctly from Hot Sync Manager. BTW, Palm¹s latest software is
5.2, not 4.1, although your Treo may only accept 4.1. Good luck.

I am sorry for asking as you indicate this has been address before,
but I have looked on the CD several times and I can not locate new
sync under Additional Tools, it's just not there?? I know I'm looking
in the right place? I am a Teacher and using the Teacher Student
version of Office 2004, is that the problem?

Hi

I found the installer inside the Additonal Tools folder inside the Microsoft
Office 2004 folder on my hard drive, i.e. Macintosh
HD:Applications:Microsoft Office 2004:Additional Tools:Handheld Sync
Installer

Thank you so much. You are a life saver. When you update to Entourage
2004, it silently breaks the conduit. It takes a while to figure out
that the contacts aren't updating properly, and very confusing how to
fix it. But installing the helper file you describe below did the
trick (curiously, not mentioned on the microsoft web site, which does
all it can to bury the fact that they make this incredibly helpful
cross-platform tool.

It isn't a "helper file", it is the installer for the new version of the
conduit.

But I agree it is amiss of MS to not note anywhere that the conduit needs a
separate upgrade step, and/or offer to run the conduit installer for you in
the "first time run" code.

Cheers,

Chris
