Entourage 2004 Delegate and Error connecting with the directory Server HELP!!!

Stanley Kubrick

Hi,
I'm trying to get Delegate access set up using Entourage 2004 and
Small Business Server 2003 (Exchange 2003). I have everything working
as far as i can tell, sending/receiving email, the calendar (updating
both ways) EXCEPT I get the dreaded "There was an error communicating
with the directory server." when ever I try to add a delegate. I have
turned off Forms Based Authentication (FBA) as suggested, but still
NOTHING.
Is the Directory server it cant communicate with the same as the LDAP
server on the directory tab? Do I need to have anything in the
"Search base" field?

HELP!!!!!!!!
Thanks!

Hi ,

I am having exactly the same problem. Where is the FBA you
speak of ?

I am also using SBS2003. Did you get lots of errors for
Root Certificates ? I had generated one as per SBS2003.

Hoping for a reply!

Thanks, Stephan.

Stephan,
The FBA setting is in the Exchange System manager, Open Servers,
shoose your server, open the Protocols folder, then the HTTP folder,
Right click on the Exchange Virtual Server and it has a check box.
But it still doesnt work for me. Anyone know about the Root
Certificate thing also? I get the message, but I just click OK and
get by it.

BUT the real issue remains the "There was an error communicating
with the directory server." issue.

HELP AGAIN!!

Hi Stanley,

The FBA was already on ?

Have you seen :-

Working around SSL Root Certificate Errors with Entourage
2004 and Microsoft Exchange

at : - http://www.themachelpdesk.com/

Its on the page there... Doesnt really help for a .local
certificate but definitely worth a read.

Hi Stanley,

You can change to a .local certificate by using the CIE
Wizard..

Hope this helps.

Hi Guys,

I'm confronted with a very similar scenario. I've delegated access to the
calendar correctly. If I use Outlook on a PC I can access the shared
information without a problem. However with Entourage 2004 when I attempt
to add the shared Exchange (2003) account I get "There was an error
communicating with the server." However the LDAP lookups work fine in
Directory Services. Any ideas on what I haven't configured correctly?

I hate doing a "me too" but I've got the same problem.

LDAP access to the Exchange 2003 directory service works fine and I can
search for user's details.

Personal mailbox information works fine with email, calendar and (personal)
contact information working a treat.

Delegated access to our shared mailbox works OK with Outlook on a PC, and I
can access the (delegated) inbox with OWA.

When I attempt to configure the delegated access in Entourage 2004 (Accounts
and the Delegate tab) I get "there was an error communicating with the
directory server".

So I'm also looking for hints. If you get any by direct mail, can you pass
them on?

Thanks
Andy
