Entourage 2004 Freezes at random

Hi all,

I have been experiencing random freezes in Entourage 2004 sometimes
they are triggered when tyring to open a new message but sometimes they
are triggered by simple key/mouse scrolling or other activities. There
is no specific function that I can locate as the source of this
problem.

This freeze up lasts for up to 3-5 minutes, then the program goes back
to normal executing all activities that triggered the freeze up. For
example: I try to open a message if the program freezes and I try to
click and open other messages, whenever the program comes back all
messages clicked are opened.

Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers,

J

One possible culprit is Microsoft Sync Services, which kick in automatically
every now and then when enabled. The sync operation can be prolonged by a
fragmented database file, so one thing to try is to run the Database Utility
(after closing down all Office apps) in the Office folder, and compact your
database. This should result in a fresh, contiguous copy of the database.
See if that helps (it is a safe operation that does not destroy anything).
If the DBU reports a problem with the database, you may need to do a
rebuild, which repairs most problems.

If that does not change things, try turning off sync and see if the problem
happens again. If not, at least you know what is causing it. You can then
decide which need is greater: syncing, or absence of random freezes.

Let us know if this helps or not.

Open the Activity Monitor in Applications/Utilities. Select the CPU button
near the bottom of the window. Next click on the %CPU column. This will give
you an idea of what application is hogging CPU.
