Entourage 2004 is dying

Help! I don¹t even know if I will get time to finish this but Entourage is
inexplicitly dying without warning. There doesn¹t seem to be a pattern.
Sometimes I am downloading, sometimes I am just reading an email. Then,
boom. It just quits. Is this a bad prefs file? Please don¹t tell me that
I need a new identity as that was a horror story from start to end.

Just for the facts, I am using Entourage version 11.4.0, fully updated, on a
Macbook with OS 10.4.11.
Desperately,

This is way too general to even guess. Use this page to help with the sudden
quits.

I will check out the url but the reason it is too general is because there
isn¹t a pattern. I can be downloading an email, I could be reading one, I
could be working in another application with Entourage in the background,
etc. This is why it is baffling. If I thought it was an errant attachment
that would make sense.

I will read the stuff.

Open your Activity Monitor so you can monitor what is going on when this
happens. Might give you a clue.

The Activity Monitor is located in your Utilizes folder. Sort by CPU column.
Generally, the number goes really high when something is hogging the system
and could be the cause of your problems.

OK, I did the Activity Monitor and noticed that on opening an email that
contains images that need to download (when you click the line at the top),
the usage of CPU spikes up to nearly 80%. Apart from that it hovers around
3% unless I am scrolling and it goes up to 8%.

Not sure if that is normal but I also am noticing that it particularly
happens on trying to read an emailed message from an online forum that I am
subscribed to. When I get a copy of the message, there is the typical line
at the top about protecting privacy and the need to click to download the
pictures that are attached. Often, this is when Entourage crashes. This
only recently started so it isn¹t as if this is a new group.

Additionally, I did pull the prefs files as recommended and deleted them but
no real improvement. Why is Entourage crashing when I try to download the
attached images on an email?

OK, I haven¹t switched identities yet but that was a real pain and I lost
emails the last time. It would be a last resort and not sure if it helps.
