Entourage 2004 line-spacing problem in incoming messages

Most of my incoming messages appear blank or only have one line of type
visible because there are huge blank spaces between lines. To read these
messages I have to click "reply to" and then choose "HTML" under "Format."
Does anyone know how to fix this?
