Hi
My problem is as follows: When I launch Entourage and work in
IllustratorCS(11)/PhotoshopCS(8) I lose the ability to use combined
keyboard-mouse shortcuts. Ex. command-spacebar should activate zoom
tools.

Evrything work fine BEFORE I launch Entourage.

Bug or setting?

Hi Martin!

You don't mention what version of Entourage you're using but I don't see
this problem using Entourage 2004 and PhotoshopCS on a Mac OS X 10.3.4
system.

Hi Bill,

We are also experiencing the same problem. When using
Freehand MXa or Photoshop CS with Entourage 2004. When
Entourage 2004 is running in the background, we are
unable to use the keyboard shortcuts to zoom and we also
loose the ability to selecting several objects by using
the shift key.

When we quite Entourage 2004, everthing returns back to
normal.

We are running these programs on MAc OS X 10.3.4 on a G5
dual 1.8GHZ machine with 1GB of RAM.

Thanks,
Ken Chee

We are having the same problem. I posted my issue, but nobody responded.
:(
I cannot use keyboard shortcuts with Illustrator CS and Entourage 2004. I
am good up until I open up Entourage, then I loose all keyboard commands.
Such as holding down the shift key while trying to draw a perfect circle in
Illus CS. Cannot do it if I have Entourage open). I can do it if I restart and
open up Illus CS and no Entourage. I am running a G5 1.8 ghz OS 10.3.4. I
think we would be good if there was a way to turn off the keyboard
shortcuts.

Okay, I think I'm counting five complaints about this issue, and two people
saying it doesn't happen with the same setup (not all on this thread, but
hopefully the other small threads will see this one, I think searching on
Adobe will bring them up, plus I just redirected a couple of people).

Everyone has Entourage 2004, Adobe Creative Suite, and Panther 10.3.4,
correct? That's the basics. Time for the five of you to start seeing if
there might be something else on your machine causing it. Any haxies in
common use? Any suspected culprits? Any add-ins for Creative Suite? Any
other programs that are usually open with Erage and the CS products? Are
these built-in shortcuts or assigned through Panther? Do all shortcuts
fail, or just certain ones? It's been reported on both G5s and G4s, I
believe.

I don't use any of these products, so cannot be all that helpful, other than
prompting....but with 5 of you it should be possible to figure it out.

One thing I'm interested in hearing; are you viewing a complex HTML message
(with tables, like the kind you receive from .com retailers) before this
happens? What happens if you launch Entourage, and then without viewing any
message (even in the preview pane) try to use the keyboard shortcuts in
Adobe?

I have the same problem occuring here too, using Entourage 2004 with
Adobe Photoshop CS, Illustrator CS and InDesign CS.
A telephone-call with the microsoft and adobe support team didn't
bring any solution. They both don't know about that problem. (typical)
If anyone should know a work-around for this bug, please post it in
reply to this thread.

I am having the same issue with Illustrator and InDesign CS. It
appears that Entourage 2004 is the sole culprit. This also only
appears to happen when Ent and the famed keychain access run amok. I
would try resetting the keychains with keychain first aid ane re-open
Ent. Also, if you close the main Ent window, but leave the app
open/running the modifier keys may come back as well. Weird, wild
stuff.

After flopping around in the adobe forums for a while, I discovered a
way to fix the problem on my computer (g4 933mhz running 10.3.4).

it turns out that one of my Entourage email accounts had asked for a
password when i logged on. i entered the password and told entourage
to remember it. then i restarted entourage. after that, my shortcuts
worked like they should.

I guess it's some strange combination of entourage and osx locking the
modifier keys when the password box is up? maybe?

I have seen this as well with Entourage 2004 (OSX 10.3.4). Entourage
seems to somehow get the operating system confused, so that the
Command key (in my case) appears to be "stuck" either up and down
position. You can confirm this by opening the System Preference
"International" panel, choosing "Input Menu" and enabling "Keyboard
Viewer". You should now see a little flag icon in your menu bar with
the "Show Keyboard Viewer" option, which will bring up a little
graphical keyboard. You can watch the modifier keys go on and off as
you press them. When the system gets in the "stuck" state, the
affected key (such as Command) will no longer visibly respond, even
though you are physically depressing and releasing it. I can also
confirm that a programming environment that allows me to query the
state of the modifier keys (4th Dimension database language) also
reports back the same wrong info on their state.

I only started seeing this problem with the installation of Office
2004. It only happens for me when Entourage is running (of course,
this is most of the time), and the problem immediately goes away if I
quit Excel. The only other person here who has encountered it so far
had Adobe Acrobat running, but I would think that I've had it happen
with no Adobe products running. The password box report is
interesting; I have an Entourage identity with a couple IMAP accounts,
and Entourage occasionally seems to "forget" the password when I go
from one to the other (even though I tell it to save it to the
Keychain). This glitch was happening in Enrage X as well, but it does
mean I get the password box more often than most, so if it is somehow
involved I may be seeing the stuck modifier key problem more often as
a result.

Three of our users had this problem today, when Exchange seemed to forget
our passwords. Now that we've all told Entourage to remember the pw, then
logged out and back in again, things are working fine.

Thanks to everyone here for working this out!

I *was* having the same problem, using Entourage 2004 and Acrobat
Professional 6, InDesign 2.02, Photoshop 7, Illustrator 10 on a G4 running
Mac OS 10.3.4. I noticed it first when I tried proportionally scaling an
image using the Direct Selection Tool (white arrow) by shift-dragging one of
the image anchor points. I'd been doing this keyboard-mouse combo for well
over a year without a problem, and only encountered the problem after
changing some of my Entourage settings last week.

Here's the solution I discovered on my own, and then confirmed with some
forum searching on Adobe's website: In your Entourage account settings, make
sure you check the box for "save password", enter your password in the box,
then quit and restart Entourage.

I don't understand why or how this one thing can deactivate most of my
keyboard modifier keys in my Adobe apps, but it does. I've verified that
this checkbox is indeed the culprit by checking the box, restarting
Entourage, testing my InDesign docs, then unchecking the box, restarting
Entourage, and testing the ID2 docs again.

As far as I can tell, this checkbox is the entire problem. Ridiculous but
true.

I have a client who has the same problem with Entourage 2004 and
Photoshop CS, but weirdly I can't replicate the problem on my system
here, even though the systems are essentially the same (same CPU, same
OS version, same Photoshop version). The big question is whether this
is a Microsoft problem or an Apple problem. I will recommend to my
client that he runs Keychain First Aid in Keychain Access, and plays
around with the checkboxes in the Accounts settings, and see if that
helps his problem.

I haven't read all the messages in this thread, but this problem isn't
exclusive to Adobe products. I just noticed it today after installing 2004
last week. In working in VectorWorks, a CAD program, I noticed that the
shift and option keys were not working for selections, and I ultimately
tracked the problem down to Entourage 2004. The problem affects different
programs differently. Bbedit light was not affected, but in Filemaker layout
mode, option dragging did not work but shift selecting did.

I also discovered that the problem does not appear immediately on launching
Entourage. If I just start it without doing anything, the other programs are
okay. If I do a Send and receive without the account (POP) set to save
password, either with the button or apple k, the problem starts. If I do an
apple r without having done a send and receive, everything is ok.

As someone else posted, having the account set to save the password cures
the problem, but I prefer not to have the program set this way.
