Entourage 2004 Migration ?

I am considering getting Entourage 2004, but I am installing a new HD and
doing a clean install of Panther to create a new boot drive [need to start
fresh after years of updates to OSX].

However, since my identity and folder on my current boot would be different,
how would anyone recommend an install and transfer of files to the new boot
drive? I could do an install while in my current boot user, and simply
install the program onto the new HD, but what happens to my files and
settings then when I boot from the new HD?

Even if I create the same user name and password on my new system, my home
directory folder on my current system will still be locked, will it not?

Thanks much

Your Entourage files constitute an "identity". That "identity" is
manifested as a folder with some stuff in it. That folder can be copied
from machine to machine with no problem (I do it all the time).
Entourage will see it, if it (or an alias to it) is in the right place.

Hey Jeff,

What is the mail client are you using currently. Once you start creating a
new identity in entourage 2004, it will prompt you for various option. like
import from Ent X, Ent 2001, or any email program. What you can do is , just
copy paste you current mail identity from your mail client , select one of
the options while creating a new identity in Ent 2004, and browse the path
in which you copied the old identuty. It should import all the items from
the old identuty to the new one.

Do let me know if this worked.

Thanks Guys. I am using Entourage X right now. I just thought that since the
identity is in my Home Folder, if I opened another boot system, the current
home folder would be protected... Locked, and unavailable.

Only the directories of the home user will be locked if you log-in as a
different user on the same HD. All of the info you received earlier will
work fine for you.

So if I recreate the same username on the new HD and new system, the old
directory on the old HD will be open to me??

Hi all, I think I have a similar problem. I have just
installed Office 2004 on my G4 and want to migrate my
Entourage X identities (2 login IDs) to the G4 running
2004. I use the Wizard to locate the database but the
Wizard repts no Entourage X identities located. This may
be a ownership isse but even if I copy Microsoft User Data
File to my local HD, Entourage still has a problem. Any
ideas??

Previously I simply copied the entire User file to my
local Documents folder and there it was.
