entourage 2004 missing mail

We are using Exchange 2000 server and mostly Mac clients. We are looking at
going to Entourage 2004 but we have seen problems with the messages that
contain extra characters in the subject. When I say extra characters I mean
exclamation points, extra periods, and other items other than normal text.
Has anyone seen this and if so does anyone know a fix for it? We have
applied all patches to the server and to Entourage but nothing seems to work.
