Entourage 2004 much slower than Entourage X ?

I've been putting off upgrading to Entourage 2004 because I have a fairly
large mailbox on exchange. When I use Entourage 2004 it takes a lot longer
to receive the new mail (probably cause it's similar to cache mode in
outlook 2003?)... Even the initial sync takes a lot longer than Entourage X.

Any reason why this is so? It seems like in Entourage 2004 it never really
stops syncing , unlike Entourage X.

Anyone else with the same experience?
