Entourage 2004 newbie questions, please...

Hi,

Just received my copy of Office 2004 and I'm exploring the apps,
especially Entourage. Can anybody tell me:

1) Is there any way in Entourage to request a "read receipt" from an
e-mail. If there is, I can't find it!

2) Can you get "real" subject threading (like Mail. app) in Entourage?

3) How's the Palm syncing with the latest conduit? I use Datebook 5 for
my Palm PIM, and need something that won't foul up its appointment
categories.

Many thanks!

See <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq/faqs.html#Anchor-130>.

Note that Return Receipts are largely unreliable over the Internet.

Entourage can group like subjects together but does not have
Reference-based threading. The new "Show in Groups" feature improves
the visual display of threaded messages.

If you want to see Entourage support more complex threading, let
Microsoft know.
3) How's the Palm syncing with the latest conduit?

Works fine with my Palm Vx, but beyond that I can't say.

Hi, Adam,

First, thanks a lot for responding...

Yes, I found this already since posting, thanks.

Agreed. But I use them a lot in corresponding with places that I know
support them.

Will do.

Are you using the built-in Datebook on your Vx, or a replacement?

Thank you!

You can insert the 'return receipt' header into the account settings:

Open the account for editing (ToolsAccounts; then select the account &
click on Edit)

Under the 'Options' tab, second item down is 'Additional Headers'. In the
'Header' column enter "Disposition-Notification-To" (without the quotes);
and in the 'value' column enter your email address.

DNRs will now be sent out with every message from this account, but not all
mail clients & mail servers support these protocols, so results from the
world at large may be variable.

If you have only an occasional need to do this on a message by message
basis,
duplicate your account and add the header to the new account only. Make sure
that this account is NOT included in any mail checking schedules, but that
mail from this account IS sent with every send. Now, to include the
return-receipt, simply change the account of a message to this ŒRR¹ account
with the pop-up menu that appears next to the 'from' header in a draft
message window when you have more than one account defined.

2) Can you get "real" subject threading (like Mail. app) in Entourage?

Take a look at custom arrangements and message grouping. See the help
feature for more details.

It syncs fine, and will retain the categories you assign in DB5 (they are
stored in the notes field of the calendar event) but entourage categories
will not be synced to db5 - you have to do that manually.

Barry, thank you for this information. I also picked it up on the wonderful
Entourage FAQ page. It works wonderfully (the 2 account solution, that is).

I'm finding this hard to get a handle on. It seems like the answer is, "no,
Entourage doesn't really have proper subject threading, yet.")

Entourage doesn't do 'Threading by reference' such that you get a
multi-level 'outline style' threading view. However, the 'group by subject'
settings will give you basic subject threading.
