entourage 2004 not opening

Help...

i’m running office 2004 on 10.3.9 i can’t entourage opens to a blank
screen with the colour wheel, it is as if the program has frozen. I’ve
reset the PRAM and rebuilt the desktop hoping this might help. No
luck. I’ve read through the topics and am not sure what to do next.

The strange thing is that i can open enourage no probs when i switch
users.

any suggestions would be great as i can’t lose all my emails

Hi Chris.
This sounds like a database corruption to me. Hold down the Option key the
next time you start Entourage, and rebuild your database. This should solve
the problem, though it means that you will have to re-download your
newsgroup messages and IMAP folders (should you have any of those).
By the way, you mentioned "re-building the desktop", which sounds quite
strange to me. As far as I know, you can only do that under Mac OS 9 or in
the Classic environment, and not under Mac OS X. So re-building your desktop
should not have any effect on a native Mac OS X program such as Entourage
2004.

thanks for your reply Michel, i did as you suggested and rebuilt the
database, was told it was done succesfully, now when i open entourage
i get a white screen with the toolbar and nothing else, still the
color wheel. If i reinstall entourage will i lose the database i have?
could i move it and rename it and then import it into the reinstalled
version after renaming the database to its orginal?

I have a similar problem except I get a Entourage can not access your
data. To attempt to fix the problem, rebuild your database. When you
click on Rebuild you get a compacting failed A read/Write error has
ocurred (-40). Anyone able to assist with this problem. MAC )OS X

i fixed the problem by moving the database out of the ms 2004 identies
folder and re-installed entourage and it worked perfect and found all
my emails.
