Entourage 2004 Notification Not Working?

S

scott boettcher

Has anyone else had troubles getting the notification option to work?
I must say that I am very impressed with Office 2004 so far, and I
expected many problems, but this is the only one so far.

Any ideas appreciated,
Scott

Check the Entourage menu and make sure Notifications are turned on (the menu
item should say "Turn Off Office Notifications").

Everything is set properly. I don't get any notifications except the
audio when new mail arrives.

Which notifications are you expecting, Scott? These should be the reminders
you've set for events and tasks in the Calendar and Tasks list. Is that what
you mean you're not getting? "Office Notifications" should open in the Dock
when a reminder comes due, and an alert floating window should appear on the
screen. You don't even get the app in the dock? (It appears with the number
of pending alerts in read in its face.) Do the events and tasks all show
that a Reminder has been set? You should check.

If everything looks OK, try logging out and in. Worst come to worst you have
to use "Remove Office" tool in Additional Tools folder and reinstall Office
from the CD. It leaves your data alone.

Hi Paul,

In Entourage 2004, there is an option under Preferences / Notification that
reads:
When New Mail Arrives
Display an alert on my desktop
I have that option checked, but I don't get anything on my desktop - am I
not understanding this feature?

Thanks,
Scott

Perhaps. It only shows when Entourage is not the frontmost app. If you want
it to show up other times, you can do so with a Rule using the "Display
notification" action.

Dave,

I setup the rules as you recommended, and it worked. Seems odd though, as I
have had it in the background and never got the notifications...
Seems to be a little buggy, and certainly not all that intuitive.
I do like it though now that the rules trigger it.

Thanks much for your help.

Spoke too soon. It's flaky, at best. Sometimes it works, other times, not.
I guess I'll wait for 2004 update 1.0!
